CAIRO, May 24 (MENA) - Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli on Saturday issued directives to expedite the completion of the upgrade works at the Sheikh Zayed Water Treatment Plant, in order to meet the soaring demand and improving the quality of its services.
Madbouli made the remarks during a field tour of a number of housing and utilities projects, after attending a ceremony marking the 123rd anniversary of launching ambulance services in Egypt.
The tour aims to stand on progress of several housing and utility projects in the cities of 6th of October, Sheikh Zayed, and New October.
The premier was accompanied by Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sherif el Sherbiny, Governor of Giza Adel el Naggar and a galaxy of officials of the Housing Ministry, the New Urban Communities Authority, as well as heads of relevant bodies.
At the beginning of the tour, Madbouli inspected Sheikh Zayed Water Treatment Plant to follow up on the progress of the ongoing upgrade activities.
He emphasized the government’s continuous efforts to enhance public services, particularly in the utilities sector, to meet growing needs and keep pace with urban expansion through implementing extensive development projects in new cities.
During the tour, the housing minister briefed Madbouli on the water treatment plant that was established and started operations in 2001 on a 72-feddan site to supply Sheikh Zayed City with potable water and other water needs.
Sherbiny added that the plant serves several areas, including Sheikh Zayed City, 6th of October City, and the Smart Village.
The plant was originally designed with a capacity of 450,000 cubic meters per day, and later expanded by an additional 125,000 cubic meters per day, bringing its total design capacity to 575,000 cubic meters per day, the minister added. (MENA)
