CAIRO, June 30 (MENA) - North Sinai Governor Khaled Megawer said Sinai has experienced the most intense confrontations with terrorism, a fact he witnessed personally during his military service there.
In statements to a radio station, Megawer described the battles against terrorism in the governorate as no less severe than Egypt’s wars throughout its history.
He noted that with terrorism largely defeated, the governorate is now facing a new challenge: development.
The state is pursuing an inclusive development plan covering the sectors of culture, industry, agriculture, education, and health, the governor said.
He noted that the development plan in North Sinai is being implemented according to a national strategy involving all relevant ministries, and is closely monitored by the prime minister and President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
Ongoing mega development projects in the North Sinai governorate will transform it within 7 to 10 years into Egypt’s economic capital, Megawer said.
Major projects in the governorate include the establishment of a strong road network, upgrading Al Arish port and airport, as well as a dramatic expansion in the education field— with the number of schools increasing from 83 in 2023 to 651 in 2024, he added.
The governor also emphasized the importance of human development, citing the recent appointment of a deputy prime minister responsible for this field. (MENA)
