CAIRO, May 6 (MENA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates said Tuesday it is closely following, in coordination with the authorities in the UAE, the situation concerning the “Petro 1” vessel, which is stranded off the UAE coast with seven Egyptian crew members on board, along with others of different nationalities.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the ministry confirmed that the Egyptian Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General in Dubai acted immediately upon receiving information earlier today about the vessel stuck in UAE territorial waters. They initiated urgent communication with the UAE side to monitor developments related to the ship and to ensure the safety of its crew.

In coordination with UAE authorities, the Egyptian embassy and consulate arranged for a UAE Coast Guard vessel to be dispatched to remain alongside “Petro 1” to verify the crew’s safety and ensure adequate provisions were available onboard, the statement read.

Additionally, the Egyptian consulate in Dubai sent representatives to Sharjah Port to follow the situation closely, it said. Consular officials also spoke directly with the ship’s crew via phone to check on their condition, it added.

The ministry reaffirmed it will continue to follow up on the ship’s legal status with UAE authorities, in accordance with applicable laws, and in order to safeguard the rights and safety of the crew members.

It expressed its deep appreciation to the UAE for its swift and supportive actions to ensure the security and well-being of the ship’s crew. (MENA)
