CAIRO, July 5 (MENA) – Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty has made phone calls with top diplomats to solidify the ceasefire deal between Iran and Israel.
Such efforts are exerted under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to intensify communications with regional and international parties to de-escalate tensions and promote calm in the region and contribute to supporting security and stability in the Middle East.
The minister made calls with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi.
The calls focused on the need for joint regional and international efforts to solidify the ceasefire between Israel and Iran and resume the diplomatic path and negotiations aimed at achieving a sustainable settlement on Iran’s nuclear program to address concerns through peaceful means and contribute to making the desired de-escalation and reducing tension in the region.
The top diplomats and IAEA chief praised Egypt’s efforts in de-escalating the situation, lauding Cairo’s roles on bridging perspectives and fostering mutual understandings to serve the interests of all parties and secure calm during this sensitive period for supporting regional security and stability.
The minister’s call with Witkoff covered the developments on the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, the release of hostages and detainees, and the need for full access for humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip. Both sides also touched on the preparations for holding indirect talks between the concerned parties to reach an agreement.
Abdelatty also reviewed ongoing preparations for holding an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, to be held once a ceasefire is achieved.
Witkoff commended Egypt’s ongoing efforts in brokering a ceasefire in Gaza and its constructive role in supporting regional peace and stability. (MENA)
