CAIRO, June 30 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty emphasized the necessity of resuming the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of hostages and prisoners, as a preliminary step toward sustaining the ceasefire and realizing U.S. President Donald Trump’s vision for comprehensive peace in the Middle East.

Abdelatty's remarks came during a phone call Monday with U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff, as part of Egypt’s ongoing contacts and efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region.

The minister also stressed the urgent need for the delivery of humanitarian, relief, and medical aid amid the severe deterioration of humanitarian conditions in Gaza.

He noted Egypt’s intention to host the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction in Gaza, once a ceasefire agreement is reached, in cooperation with the Palestinian government and the United Nations.

The foreign minister underscored the importance of presenting a political horizon for the Palestinian cause that fulfills the aspirations of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state—thereby avoiding recurring cycles of escalation and tension and contributing to regional security and stability.

He emphasized the importance that both Israel and Iran adhere to the ceasefire, which would help reduce tensions and open the door for political and diplomatic tracks.

He affirmed Egypt’s support for the resumption of negotiations regarding Iran’s nuclear program and all efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the Middle East region. (MENA)
