NEW ALAMEIN, Egypt, June 25 (MENA) - Egypt has been working around the clock since the onset of the Iran-Israel crisis, forming a crisis management committee to follow up on the situation and monitor the availability of all strategic commodities, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said.
Egypt's efforts were coordinated with the chambers of commerce and industry in cooperation with the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), Madbouli said.
Madbouli made the remarks during a news briefing following the cabinet's weekly meeting here on Wednesday.
He said priority was given to keeping the economy and the production process moving, securing production inputs and raw materials to keep factories operating at their maximum capacity, which helped in meeting local market needs without crises or price hikes.
From day one, a set of scenarios was developed, including worst-case scenarios, the premier said, asserting the government's keenness to listen to all experts' opinions.
The government has also met with the advisory committees concerned, he added.
Asserting the importance of his meeting with members of the advisory committee on political affairs earlier this week, especially in light of the ongoing conflict in the region, Madbouli said it had been agreed to hold regular meetings over the period ahead to deal with existing challenges and draw up new visions for what lies ahead.
Madbouli said the government has been working with all state sectors to ensure price stability and availability of medicines.
He added that he had been in touch with the petroleum minister regarding the arrival of LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) regasification vessels as soon as possible, saying that by the beginning of the first week of July, two ships will enter into service to secure local needs.
"This is a temporary solution until we restore our full production capacity," the prime minister said.
Madbouli noted that a clear-cut energy rationalization plan will remain in place after the end of the crisis, stressing that there will be no return to load shedding or power cuts. (MENA)
