Israel's outrageous attack on Iran pre-empted the results of the Muscat negotiations for a peaceful settlement to the dispute over the Iranian nuclear program amid extremely complicated regional circumstances, Abdelatty said.
He stressed that, "there are no military solutions to this crisis," reiterating Egypt's rejection of the ongoing Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities, in violation of international humanitarian law and relevant IAEA and Security Council resolutions, which are brazenly disregarded by Israel.
Abdelatty also deplored the double standards and selective policies adopted by some European and Western countries, which turn a blind eye to Israel's practices.
Abdelatty underscored the paramount importance of taking a comprehensive approach that takes all non-proliferation security concerns into account when dealing with the Iran nuclear file, citing the goal that Egypt, along with Iran, and with the support of all Arab and Muslim countries since 1974, has called for, namely establishing a zone free of weapons of mass destruction and universalizing of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), especially in the Middle East.
He emphasized the importance of achieving this goal, especially in light of Israel's refusal to accede to the NPT and subject its nuclear facilities to IAEA safeguards despite numerous international resolutions issued on that score. (MENA)
