CAIRO, June 16 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty warned that the continued rapid escalation in the Middle East and the military confrontation between Israel and Iran will have extremely dangerous repercussions for the security and stability of the region.

He pointed out to Egypt’s ongoing contacts to reduce military escalation, contain the situation, and promote political and diplomatic solutions.

This came during a phone call Monday between the foreign minister and Palestinian Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammed Mustafa as part of ongoing assessments of developments in Gaza and the consequences of Israeli attacks on Iran and the region at large.

Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s efforts - carried out in cooperation with Qatar and the United States - to resume a ceasefire in Gaza and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid.

He conveyed Egypt's firm rejection of Israel’s policy of starvation and collective punishment, describing it as a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

He also stressed the importance of upholding the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and condemned Israeli military operations and ongoing violations and incursions committed by Israeli settlers in the West Bank.

He reiterated the need to find a political horizon that would lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along with the realization of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination based on the two-state solution. (MENA)
