CAIRO, June 14 (MENA) – Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli said that Egypt’s agriculture sector has achieved great export growth and remains central to the state’s economic reform agenda.
During a visit to Magrabi Agricultural Company in Beheira, Madbouli inspected various agricultural and industrial facilities. The tour included cold storage units, advanced irrigation stations, pest control labs, and fruit packaging lines.
Maghrabi Agricultural Company cultivates over 9,100 feddans across multiple areas. It exports 153,000 tons of crops annually, mainly citrus, grapes, strawberries, dates, and lettuce, to 70 countries.
The company provides 1,600 full-time jobs and 6,000 seasonal positions. Around 7% of the workforce includes people with disabilities.
The company's pest control lab now produces biological alternatives locally, replacing €17 million in annual imports. Technology is used for the early detection of pests and monitoring soil conditions.
For his part, Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk said that supporting agricultural projects is a core part of Egypt’s 2030 sustainable development strategy. He highlighted the sector’s role in food security and job creation.
Meanwhile, Chairman Sherif Maghrabi stated that expansion is underway in land reclamation, new citrus varieties, and modern safety standards to meet export requirements and enhance product quality. (MENA)
