Abdelatty said Wadephul's visit comes at an extremely sensitive and critical time, particularly in light of the serious escalation following Israel’s early morning strikes on Iran, an act he described as unjustified and dangerous.
Abdelatty added that Egypt strongly condemned the Israeli escalation, emphasizing that both sides agreed on the urgent need to avoid a broader regional conflict that could spiral into total chaos, warning that such instability would impact European security, including that of Germany.
The minister described the situation in Gaza as “catastrophic and inhumane beyond all reason and imagination”, citing Israel’s ongoing policy of systematic starvation, the collapse of medical and humanitarian conditions, and continued attacks that disproportionately claim the lives of innocent civilians, particularly women and children.
Abdelatty briefed his German counterpart on Egypt’s ongoing efforts, in coordination with Qatar and the United States, to secure a ceasefire agreement that would include the release of hostages and allow full and unrestricted humanitarian and medical aid into the Gaza Strip.
He also presented details of the Arab-Islamic plan for early recovery and reconstruction, and stressed the importance of convening the Cairo International Conference with high-level German and international participation.
The minister reaffirmed that there is no military solution to the current crisis, and that double standards must be rejected in favor of a single universal standard rooted in international law and UN principles.
There can be no security or stability in the region through the use of force, Abdelatty said, adding that military action will not bring security to Israel or any other party.
He underlined that the only viable solution lies in the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the Palestinian national territory with East Jerusalem as its capital, a step that would send a powerful message of international support and pave the way for realizing the two-state solution.
The top diplomat also addressed developments in the Red Sea region and freedom of navigation, asserting that the responsibility for the Red Sea lies primarily with the littoral states, with necessary international backing.
He called for enhanced bilateral coordination between Egypt and Germany, including reciprocal visits and regular consultations.
Abdelatty praised Germany for its continued support of the Egyptian economy, especially the expedited disbursement of the second tranche of macro-financial assistance provided by the European Union. (MENA)
