SEOUL, June 4 (MENA) - New South Korean President Lee Jae-myung met National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik and leaders of political parties Wednesday and called for their cooperation in governing the country, Yonhap news agency reported.
Following a swearing-in ceremony at the National Assembly, Lee had a luncheon meeting with Woo; Park Chan-dae, acting leader of the ruling Democratic Party (DP); and Kim Yong-tae, interim leader of the main opposition People Power Party (PPP), as well as leaders of four minor parties.
"No one can get 100 percent of everything they want. I sincerely hope that by making concessions and compromising where needed, we can craft policies that most people agree on and help improve the lives of all citizens," Lee said.
He emphasized the importance of respectful dialogue and constructive competition, urging an end to "war-like politics filled with hostility." Lee added that he plans to stay in close contact with political leaders moving forward.
With the liberal DP holding 171 of the 300 seats in parliament - and 188 seats combined with progressive minor parties - Lee is expected to have strong legislative support for advancing his policy agenda. The conservative PPP holds 107 seats.(MENA)
