CAIRO, June 3 (MENA) - Egypt has extended its sincere congratulations to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Liberia on their election on Tuesday by the United Nations General Assembly as non-permanent members of the UN Security Council for a two-year term starting in January 2026.
The election of two African countries with a long-standing history of working in the service of regional peace and security represents a qualitative addition to the Security Council, Egypt said in a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates.
“It also reflects the importance of enhancing Africa’s representation in the United Nations' most prominent body,” it added.
Egypt expressed its confidence that the DRC and Liberia will carry out their roles in the Security Council with responsibility and wisdom in a way that helps strengthen the UN body's efforts to preserve global peace and security, and support the priority issues of the African continent.
Egypt also confirmed its full support for the two friendly countries in assuming their duties in the Security Council. (MENA)
