CAIRO, May 25 (MENA) – Egypt values its strong ties with Azerbaijan and seeks to deepen cooperation across political and parliamentary fields, Senate Speaker Abdel Wahab Abdel Razeq said on Sunday during an official visit to Baku.

Abdel Razeq had talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in a meeting that highlighted growing bilateral relations, according to a press statement. The visit came at the invitation of Azerbaijani Parliament Speaker Sahiba Gafarova.

During the talks, Abdel Razeq conveyed greetings from Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi and invited Gafarova to visit Cairo. He also extended an invitation to President Aliyev to attend the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum in July.

The Egyptian speaker urged Azerbaijani support for Egypt’s UNESCO Director-General nominee Khaled El-Enany and for Cairo's stance on the Gaza conflict and Palestinian issue.

President Aliyev reaffirmed his personal ties with President Sisi and voiced strong support for Egypt’s positions, calling El-Enany "Azerbaijan’s candidate" for the UNESCO post.
