CAIRO, May 15 (MENA) - Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli reaffirmed the utmost importance of Egypt's mineral wealth sector, highlighting the state's commitment to developing this vital industry through a comprehensive strategy, initiated under the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.
The aim is to maximize the sector’s economic potentials by implementing a roadmap that focuses on improving mining performance, utilizing Egypt’s diverse mineral resources and expanding extractive industries.
This came during Madbouli's field visit on Thursday to the Sukari Gold Mine in the Eastern Desert near Marsa Alam, as part of the government’s efforts to support and develop the mining sector, promote investment, and increase its contribution to the national economy.
Madbouli was accompanied by Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and a parliamentary delegation from the House of Representatives and the Senate along with representatives from the Red Sea Governorate.
During the visit, Madbouli said the government is adopting an integrated approach while dealing with the parliament to implement the national mining development plan with a focus on reforming and updating the legal, financial, and investment frameworks in accordance with international standards.
He noted that new models for gold and mineral exploitation agreements have been developed in collaboration with major global companies in a way that opens vast prospects for investment in Egypt’s mining sector, ultimately increasing its share in the country’s GDP.
Badawi reiterated that creating an attractive investment climate for the mining sector is a top priority to ensure its greater contribution to national income.
He explained that transforming the Mineral Resources Authority into an economic authority—following parliamentary discussions—is a crucial step to attract more investment and boost value-added output. He stressed that this move is fully supported by the political leadership, the government and Parliament.
The minister also pointed out that the Sukari Gold Mine is one of Egypt’s flagship mining projects, with advanced operational capabilities and highly skilled Egyptian personnel managing and operating it. (MENA)
