ASWAN, Upper Egypt, May 4 (MENA) - Ambassador of the European Union (EU) to Egypt Angelina Eichhorst and President of the National Council for Women (NCW) Amal Ammar visited on Sunday Aswan Secondary Experimental School for Girls and met with students participating in the “Dawi” National Initiative for Girls' Empowerment implemented under the patronage of Mrs Entissar El Sisi, the wife of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, within the framework of the National Project for the Development of the Egyptian Family.

“Dawi” Initiative - supported by the EU- aims to empower girls in Egypt by providing them with basic life skills, enhancing their decision-making abilities and linking them to basic services, with a view to achieving the goal of having girls enjoy their full rights by 2030.

The initiative, launched in 2022 under the auspices of Mrs Sisi, is spearheaded by the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood (NCCM) and the NCW, with the support of the UNICEF and in partnership with the relevant ministries and civil society organizations.

“Dawi” promotes a culture of gender equality through advocating open dialogue and critical thinking, as it engages girls and boys, parents and community members and leaders to encourage them to actively participate in the process of societal change.

Among the most prominent aspects of the initiative is working to bridge the digital gap for girls by training them in digital literacy skills, facilitating their transition to adulthood and ensuring their access to promising future opportunities.

“Dawi” initiative aims to expand its scope through its growing electronic platforms, including its website and mobile application to provide tools and regular updates to enhance permanent interaction with girls, as part of the joint “Tamkeen” program between the EU and Egypt to empower women. The scope of the initiative will be expanded nationwide, with the aim of engaging 20,000 girls on the ground, and one million girls online, by improving access to high-quality services that include psychological and social first aid, developing leadership skills, and enhancing community and political participation.
