CAIRO, June 28 (MENA) - The Public Prosecution has ordered the detention of a truck driver four days pending investigations after he caused a collision with a microbus on a regional road near Ashmoun in Menoufia in Lower Egypt, on Friday, leaving 19 persons dead and three others injured.

The driver has tested positive for drugs, the Public Prosecution revealed in a statement on Saturday.

A prosecution team moved to the scene to examine the bodies of the deceased and question their families and eyewitnesses, according to the statement.

According to preliminary investigations, the tractor-trailer truck driver crossed the barrier separating the two road lanes, colliding with a microbus that was carrying the victims.

The Prosecution said that its jurisdiction is limited to criminal proceedings, noting that victims' families and any other parties affected by the accident may file a civil claim while the case is under the Prosecution's investigations, or file a separate lawsuit before a civil court to claim their rights.

The Prosecution stressed its commitment to uncover all the facts behind the incident and announce the results of investigations once completed. (MENA)
