CAIRO, May 31 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigration Badr Abdelatty said Cairo anticipates further coordination with the US administration and the two houses of Congress to promote bilateral relations for mutual benefit.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Saturday with Republican Senator Tim Sheehy, a member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services, to discuss ways to boost the Egypt-US strategic partnership, as well as ongoing cooperation at the political, economic, military, and technical levels, according to a press release by the ministry.
Asserting Egypt's interest in furthering economic, trade, and investment cooperation with the US, Abdelatty highlighted the positive outcomes of the Egyptian-US Economic Forum, which took place in Cairo on May 25-26, with major US companies participating.
He also briefed the US lawmaker on Egypt's efforts for Middle Eastern security and stability, highlighting the key role of Egypt-US strategic partnership in supporting these efforts.
The two sides shared their views on some regional issues of mutual concern, including Egypt's position as regards the developments in Gaza, and ongoing cooperation with the US and Qatar to reach a ceasefire agreement and ensure unimpeded passage of humanitarian assistance into the war-torn strip.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's opposition to the displacement of any Palestinians.
The meeting also tackled the positive results of de-escalation in the Red Sea region and how it affects maritime security and international trade. (MENA)
