CAIRO, May 21 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's aspiration to enhance cooperation with Germany in the economic, political, trade and investment fields to achieve common interests in light of the close relations between the two friendly countries.
During a meeting held Wednesday with Germany's new Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, on the sidelines of the AU-EU ministerial meeting in Brussels, the Egyptian foreign minister stressed Egypt's keenness on working with the German side to develop cooperation in all fields, including energy, renewable energy, combating climate change and creating safe and legal migration routes, in line with both countries' priorities, along with boosting collaboration within multilateral frameworks.
Abdelatty voiced hope for continued German support for Egypt within the European Union, particularly with regard to the rapid approval and disbursement of the second tranche of the European financial package to Egypt.
Meantime, the two ministers exchanged views on a number of regional and international files of mutual interest, most notably developments in the Palestinian issue.
Abdelatty reviewed Egypt's mediation efforts, alongside Qatar and the US, to resume the ceasefire and the delivery of humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, given the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation there.
He stressed the need for a ceasefire and a political horizon for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, which would help achieve peace, security, and stability in the region.
The meeting also addressed challenges to peace and security in Africa as the minister expounded Egypt's efforts to support security, stability and development in the continent.
The top diplomat highlighted Egypt's full support for respecting the unity and sovereignty of Somalia and the need to enhance security and stability efforts in the country.
